Layouts

Layouts that assign navigations to user groups require Craft Pro.

Layouts let you run different control panel navigations for different user groups — for example a streamlined client menu while admins keep a fuller sidebar.

Managing layouts

Open the Layouts tab from Control Panel Nav. The default layout cannot be deleted; it’s what users see when no other layout matches.

On Craft Pro, create additional layouts and assign them to one or more user groups. Reorder layouts to control priority — the top of the list wins when a user matches more than one layout.

Use Duplicate to copy a layout’s name suffix (… copy), user-group assignments, and navigation customizations into a new layout. After duplicating, adjust permissions and/or reorder so the right layout wins for multi-group users.

Which layout wins?

If a user belongs to multiple groups that each have a layout, CP Nav picks the first matching layout by ascending sort order (Layouts table order), not Craft’s user-group order.

Editing a layout’s nav

In the Navigation tab, use the header layout picker to select which layout you’re editing. All builder changes (including Reset) apply to that layout only.
